Electronic Check Conversion Services

Electronic Check Conversion (ECC) Resale

Converting paper checks into electronic checks with ECC.

Reduce Check Handling and Ensure Cash Flow.

NCN offers Electronic Check Conversion for merchants in face-to-face businesses or those operating a check-by-mail business.  With ECC, your merchants convert paper checks presented at the point of sale into safe, efficient “electronic” checks.

In the point-of-sale business, voided checks are returned to customers, eliminating the need for storing, handling, counting and re-counting them at the end of the day.  The checks are processed electronically via the Automated Clearing House and settled to the merchant in 48 hours.

Unlike the Visa POS Check Service merchants do not have real-time authorizations against live bank accounts, instead all authorizations are made using the NCN database.

Benefits to your merchants include:

  • Ensure 48 hour fund availability from checks
  • Virtually eliminate the time and expense of depositing checks at the bank.
  • Reduce check acceptance costs and risks.
  • Streamline back office procedures.
  • Fewer checks to handle. Because checks are immediately returned to consumers at the point of sale, there’s no paper for merchants to handle, process, and deposit at their bank. Fewer checks means lower bank processing fees.
  • Improved customer service. Customers benefit from the speed and convenience of the fast checkout enabled by the conversion process.

Hardware Requirements

To accept checks through the service, merchants must have a check MICR reader and compatible POS terminal or a PC.  For ARC, the merchant must have an imager to store images of the checks.  ECHO supports the most widely used terminals in the U.S., virtually assuring you of a compatible program.  ECHO will provide the necessary technical and operational support to get you started.
